I'm getting our gear together this morning so will be ready to leave at 4pm this afternoon. This is only in theory though. We'll see what time we actually hit the road. I just put the cargo rack on top of the van, gathered some of our wood rounds that are too big for our fireplace. I'm taking one of these pieces for a good reason, back in the day I borrowed a wedge from my buddy in hopes of splitting some of these rounds. Apparently the wood was too green to split and now this piece of wood is holding my friends wedge hostage and I plan on getting it back!
Is it me or is there always something forgotten at home when going away for a weekend? Whether it's turning off lights, taking garbage out or even leaving the tent poles for the kids tent in your sisters garage. Well... I got a call yesterday from my mother (my mother and father will be joining us camping and they left yesterday). She called and said honey, can you do me a favor? Me being of sound body and mind said "I'll go by and take care of that". So what did they forget? Two super important things, one being the starting of the dishwasher, apparently it's ready for take-off and there was a failure to launch. Second, the poor hummingbirds food is still in the refrigerator. I figured they called her and reminded her of this. Now I'm wonder what I'll forget myself. I will be sure to keep you posted on this. Oh, last time we went forgot the coffee pot. That's right, I brought the coffee and not the coffee pot. I will clean and pack that sucker right now so I won't forget. We use this stove top espresso maker at home on a daily basis and kick rear for camping. I love having my mocha in the mornig! As matter of fact I NEED to make some right now before I start on everything else.
This week I bought some bug repellent bracelets for this trip and I'm curious how repellent they actually are. I picked them up for a buck so I'll cross my fingers and hope they do the job, I have packed spay for back-up as always. On another tangent, does anyone use one of those organizers? You know, the ones that are rectangular and have either 2, 3 or 4 separate spaces to divide your gear. Do you recommend on of these or do you have a better solution for organizing your gear for camping? If you have any experience with this and have suggestions please share.
I wish everyone the best of times with whatever you do with your family this weekend.
